Slow but Steady

For as long as I can remember, even before it was popular, I have aspired to be a runner.  Now that I think about it, I guess it started with our running program in Middle School.  Oh how I wanted to be a "top 10 runner".  My 8th grade year I squeaked into the last spot on the girls "top 10 runners list"  a proud moment in my middle school career!!!  All that said, I have been running off and on since middle school.  I use the term runner very loosely.  Maybe I should just say that I attempt to run from time to time...I am in no way built like a runner or have the endurance and athletic ability of a runner, but I so want to be a runner!!!! My running progress is slow go.  If I don't work at it weekly, I lose ground and have to almost start at day 1 with my training.  Gaining any distance takes lots and lots of work, only to lose ground when I don't run for a week or so.  My goal this year is to complete a 10K.  I have done lots of 5Ks but have been stuck at a 3-4 mile max.  I finally did 5 miles on the treadmill at the gym the other day and it felt great.
There are so many parallels to running and and just life in general. Running is hard, running takes discipline, running well means keeping on when you just don't feel like it. Just like in life, there is no better feeling to setting a goal and achieving the goal.  We just have to get through all the hard work and discipline to stay the course. So here are to my running goals and my life/mama/nurse/wife goals.  Just a reminder to "just keeping running" it will be so worth it in the end!!!
