If this is camping 101, we might need the remedial course for our next trip!!!!
Just a disclaimer: I down loaded my pictures from this trip and was so disappointed. Between my honey not arriving until after dark the 1st night and battery problems, my pictures are few and far between!
Lesson #1
These campers take their camping seriously!!!! Arrive early to get a good spot. I arrived at our camping destination around 3:30 on Friday. I found out quickly that the whole park was full. Luckily we had reserved a spot, it just meant that we were going to be elbow to elbow with everyone else in the park and we were camping rookies!!
Lesson #2
Picking the spot
This is a really big deal in the camping world!!! Because I arrived at the camp ground 1st, I had the added pressure of picking a spot. I was not even sure what qualified one spot as a good or bad spot. After a little driving I found a spot that was in view of the playground and close to the bath house. I later found out that staying by the bath house actually is categorized into the "bad" spot column but with 6 kids with our crew, I think we could never be too close to the bath house. Oh well! We were camping rookies, maybe when we are seasoned campers, we too will pick the secluded shady spot in the woods--or not!
Lesson #3
Tent set up
Let me tell you, Richard and Leslie passed this with flying colors!!!! Considering, my tent was not even out of the box! ( I think we really lost some cool points when we had to take the tent out of the box it came in from the store to put it up) Leslie and Richard put their tent up in about 10 minutes flat and did the same with mine. I would probably still be assembling the tent now, if they had not helped. Okay, so much for helped... Thank you so much Richard and Leslie!!
Lesson #4
Your camping success is measured in how well you eat!!!
Straight A's baby!!!!!
We may be rookies at some things but when it came to cooking and eating we were awesome!!!
Nothing tastes better than food cooked over a campfire, especially when you have prepared and cooked for about 2 hours!!! Okay we did our homework on this one. We took electric skillets, (thanks for the tip Sarah) and cooked anything and everything we wanted!!
more lessons to come....(2 nights in the tent have left me longing for my bed)
